Ann Kolthoff

A self-proclaimed livestock enthusiast, Ann grew up on the century old family farm in Iowa where her family raises corn and soybeans and runs a small herd of Simmental and Sim-Angus cows.

She holds a B.S. in Animal Science and a M.S. in Ruminant Nutrition from South Dakota State University. While completing her master’s degree, Ann simultaneously served as manager of the SDSU Sheep Unit, a 400 head sheep operation consisting of purebred Hampshire and commercial Polypay ewes. During her time there, she oversaw lambing, research projects, production sales, and extension and teaching activities. While attending college, Ann was an active member in numerous college organizations and spent many hours in a 12-passenger van traveling the country as part of the Wool, Livestock, and Meat-Animal Eval teams.

In fall of 2017, Ann joined Strauss Brands, Inc. as a key member of their Livestock Team where she oversees all producer certification, compliance, and education. Occasionally you can find Ann helping with consumer education, food shows, and marketing programs, but she is most comfortable when she is out on the farm or ranch with producers— she can even be found loading trucks! Through the Wild Sky/American Prairie Reserve/Strauss partnership, Ann has had the opportunity to enjoy many trips to Big Sky Country to network and work with producers on getting cattle into Strauss finishing operations!

Ann resides in Brookings, SD. When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time working on show cattle, spending time with friends and family, and cheering on the Jackrabbits!
