Erin Edge has been working for Defenders of Wildlife in Montana for the last twelve years to minimize bear-human conflicts through on-the-ground prevention projects and outreach. Erin’s work involves working directly with communities, livestock producers, and state/federal/tribal agencies to implement proactive techniques to minimize grizzly bear-human conflicts. Prior to 2014, Erin managed Defenders’ grizzly bear compensation program, compensating ranchers who had lost livestock to grizzly bears. Currently, the Montana Livestock Loss Board oversees this compensation. Erin also assists Defenders’ wolf conservation program through implementing methods that minimize conflicts between wolves and people as well as increasing awareness about wolves in the region.
